PARIS HILTON ACTING

Paris (you know the surname)according to entertainment industry magazine Variety
is going to sing in a science fiction musical thriller, REPO! The Genetic Opera, set in 2056 as humanity is devastated by an epidemic.

The film is being directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, director of two-thirds of the Saw trilogy.

Hilton made her cinematic debut in 2005 in the remake of a 1950s terror film, House of Wax, in the role of Paige Edwards.

Interesting viewing times ahead I have to say...unless I'm held ransome and fighting for my life I won't it. What about you? Is it appealing?

SUPERHERO FEVER HITS AUSTRALIA

July 30th 2007 06:59
SUPERHERO FEVER HITS AUSTRALIA

You've probably noticed the influs of Superheroes in Australia at the moment. One of Hollywood's top producers, Avi Arad, whose credits include the Spider-Man, X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises, said he would shoot several big budget films in coming years in Australia based on comic book superheroes.

Arad had a taste of filmmaking in Australia with this year's hit, Ghost Rider, starring Nicolas Cage, which was made in Melbourne.

The producer said he was impressed with Australia's talented film crews and special effects house. "Some of the bigger projects I am working on now inevitably will end up in Australia,'' Arad told AAP in an interview in Los Angeles.

Arad has more than 10 films based on comics on his production slate, including Captain America, The Avengers, Thor, The Punisher 2, Ant-Man, Iron Fist and two spin-offs of the X-Men films, Wolverine (starring Hugh Jackman) and Magneto.

Arad would not name the films he planned to shoot in Australia, but he did reveal he was attempting to hire an Australian director for one of the movies. He declined to reveal the director's name, but there has been speculation Australian director Alex Proyas is earmarked as to direct the film adaptation of another Arad project, Silver Surfer.

The Silver Surfer was introduced to film fans this year in the latest Fantastic Four film.

Proyas directed the small budget Australian movie, Garage Days.
Proyas is best known in Hollywood for his 2004 sci-fi film I, Robot, starring Will Smith.

Ghost Rider cost $US110 million to shoot in Melbourne, but made $US230 million at the global box office and tens of millions more in DVD and video sales.

"I love working in Australia,'' Arad said. "It's such a fun place with great technical talent and some amazing special effects houses.''

Arad said a sequel to Ghost Rider was yet to be planned.

The 57-year-old recently left his post as chairman and chief executive of Marvel Studios to form his own production company, which includes Marvel properties Hulk, Spider-Man and next year's much-hyped Iron Man, starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Robert Downey Jr.

Arad's next project is the Bratz movie, based on the popular girls' dolls.

Bratz, a live-action film, was shot in Los Angeles and will open in Australian cinemas on September 20.

"Bratz is X-Men for girls,'' Arad said.

Interesting cinematic experiences ahead it seems/

SIMPSONS MOVIE IN SYDNEY

Australian stars of the small screen have joined Homer, Marge, Bart and Lisa on the yellow carpet in Sydney as the Simpsons make the leap to the big screen.

Sydney's Fox Studios was transformed into downtown Springfield, complete with a Kwik-E-Mart, serving Homer's favourite doughnuts and ice cold squishys, for the Australian premier of The Simpsons Movie.

Some 3000 guests, including TV personality Larry EmdUr, Sydney Swans coach Paul Roos and children's group Hi-5, strolled the "yellow carpet" this evening, posing with their favourite Simpsons characters.

Hi-5's Charli Delaney's favourite character was Lisa "because she's so cute" while children's author Andrew Daddo preferred barman Moe. Others, like comedian Mikey Robbins, saw themselves in some of the Simpsons characters.

"If Homer and Barney ever got married I would be their baby," Robbins joked.

After 20 years, 18 seasons and 400 episodes, The Simpsons Movie opensed nationwide last Thursday.

In the eagerly awaited animated feature film, Homer must save the world from a catastrophe he himself has created.

The film's creators have managed to include every character that has ever appeared in the series.

The show's creator, Matt Groening, has promised the film will reward avid fans of the TV series with subtle "in" jokes.

Has anyone seen it yet and if you have, what did you think?

HARRY POTTER BECOMES LEGAL

When Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe turns 18 today he earns access to a reported £20 million ($A46.85 million). He assures the media (and maybe himself?), that money will won't change him. He plans on having some sort of party to celebrate but isn’t sure how yet...
‘I don't plan to be one of those people who, as soon as they turn 18, suddenly buy themselves a massive sports car collection or something similar,’ he said earlier this month. ‘I don't think I'll be particularly extravagant.’

Well, if I was coming into all that money I know I’d definitely have a drink to celebrate.

Cheers, Harry, have a good night.

POOR THINGS - CANCELLED

OK, this is big news with an important message for us all. Don’t use drugs when you are acting, it‘s dangerous for your health...and probably for viewers too.

The New York Post has reported that Despite Lindsay's magnanimous compliance to alcohol monitoring and drug tests, Hollywood studios are wary (and I don’t blame them) of working with the hard-partying star.

This is not her first film warning, back in May, after being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence during the filming of Georgia, Lohan was reprimanded by a letter from Morgan Creek Films CEO James G. Robinson for showing up late for work. At that point, the producers of Poor Things said her law fling would not affect production.

Well, not any more. She’s gone too far. Lohan was supposed to start filming Poor Things with Shirley MacLaine after finishing rehab...But according to set designer Fontaine Beauchamp Hebb, she received a phone call from producer Jacky Gilardi, who said,'that Poor Things has been cancelled. Apparently, Ms. Lohan's antics in Las Vegas over the weekend have scared the bond companies and all of the funding has been pulled.'

Aw, poor Lin-Lin...

TRANSFORMERS - REVIEW

July 20th 2007 13:52
Transformers Review

I'm actually late with this review, considering I saw Transformers pretty early - 3rd July. But like they say, better late than never.

PLOT
I'm sure you all know the basic plot, but maybe not so much about the sub-plot, what makes this movie unique to all the other Transformer movies. Sam Witwicky, played by Hollywood-favorite Shia LaBeouf, finally manages to collect enough money to buy a car that of course ends up being Bumblebee, one of the Autobots, the good guys. In fact he didn't pick the car, the car picked him, because Sam was in possession of the "Captain's glasses" that both the Autobots and Decepticons are after.

Very soon Sam gets involved in this war between the two parties, as he tries to get Mikaela Banes', played by Megan Fox, interest.

Everything ends up in a wild conclusion, with lots of action and incredible visual effects, still without compromising the story.

CRITIQUE
Before seeing the movie I had as high expectations as anyone can have, having all those amazing trailers and pictures in mind. Of course it's dangerous, because sadly most of the times movies with expectations fail to deliver.
Transformers

I'm in a great position to say Transformers delivered beyond expectations. And it wasn't the effects or the cool robots. I loved it from the beginning, the nearly half first hour without a lot of neither mentioned factors. The humor and plain enjoyable story depicted. I said Shia LaBeouf is the new favorite in Hollywood, and I can understand why. This is a boy with talent and a long career waiting for him.

Of course the wonderful Megan Fox doesn't make things worse. Probably doesn't reach Shia's level, but quite gorgeous nevertheless.

Now that we've established that the story and performances were top class, how did the effects do?

Say what you want about Michael Bay, but I still haven't seen a director with the same skills in creating believable explosions, robots, effects, and anything else computer generated. Even Spielberg has to try real hard to match up.

I believe Transformers is Bay's best movie so far and will/can only be topped by a sequel. This is what Bay was supposed to do all along and I'm weirdly afraid we'll never see him in this state again.

Of course there's always something in every movie that could be improved and in this case I guess it's the mess we sometimes see during the robot-fights. Like steel fumbling around on the ground wrestling. I understand it's hard to manage, but those close-ups made things worse.

The climax fighting scene at the end also felt confusing, like what robot died, who lived, who is attacking now, etc, but then again maybe it's something only I experienced.

CONCLUSION
If this review didn't make you want to see Transformers, I failed miserably. I purely recommend everyone to see it and preferably in the cinemas. It almost feels like a one-in-a-lifetime experience. If movies are supposed to be entertaining, this is the definition of movies.

9/10

The Dead Girl Trailer

July 19th 2007 10:56

I haven't seen this film yet, but it's one I'm keen to see soon. Hopefully this weekend if I can wangle it.

The Dead Girl is the second feature from writer-director Karen Moncrieff. It’s one of those films with numerous big names in it, here’s a few to give you an idea: Toni Collette, Eva Loseth, Rose Byrne and Piper Laurie.

Its basic premise is that five separate, but loosely linked stories are told through several characters all of which have a connection to a dead girl. We spend time with each character and delve deeper into their psyches, insecurities and relationships. Yes, as you can tell…human drama most definitely ensues.

Apparently, men are not depicted favourably in this film, it’s a story about women and the five main actresses are quite superb. So this is the film to see if you feel like some female superiority.

THE LAST LEGION - TRAILER

July 17th 2007 11:32
The Last Legion

Now here's a movie I'm excited about. A lot of medieval war-movies tend to either be boring or cheap, so I'm glad The Last Legion looks differently. At least its trailer.

It's about young Romulus Augustus that flees from Rome on a voyage to Britain to track down a legion of supporters. [IMDB]

Actually one of the recent good similar-looking movies I saw was King Arthur, which is a story very close to this one. A story taking place earlier.

BATMAN'S NEW SUIT

July 14th 2007 20:48
Slowly but steady the studios prepare us for the upcoming Batman, The Dark Knight.

For quite some period it was the Joker, now it's Batman's suit. Of course everything looks so much more awesome once on the screen, but right now I don't know what to think. It's like they tried too hard with details. Simple and clean is always nicer.

ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS - POSTER

July 14th 2007 20:28
Alvin and the Chipmunks is originally a cartoon series from the 60s that I know nothing about. If you're like me, the chipmunks are a music group containing mischievous group leader Alvin; tall and quiet Simon; and chubby, impressionable Theodore. [IMDB]

The movie is soon to be released and Jason Lee has the main role, next to the animated creatures.

I recommend you to have low expectations, but you never know.

INDIANA JONES 4 - TEASER

July 14th 2007 13:57
Indiana Jones 4

There's probably no one NOT waiting for Indiana Jones 4 to be released. It's almost as suspenseful as watching me approach payday.

Few days ago this teaser became available showing a happy Harrison Ford and others on set. So it's really not a Indiana Jones 4 teaser but more of a Spielberg propaganda commercial.

DECEMBER BOYS - TRAILER

July 14th 2007 13:47
December Boys

Since I personally think Daniel Radcliffe is overrated I won't tell you what I personally think.

However, good stories will remain good stories and this one seems to be just that. December Boys is about four orphan boys who have grown to be the closest of friends that one summer find themselves competing for the attention of the same family. [IMDB]

Why does Radcliffe get to "do it" in all his latest projects?

Return of the Peeker

July 14th 2007 12:26
Hey everyone, it has been a wild period of adventure. Not really, but it has been fun at least. Anyway now it's time to get into the usual routine, at least for a while...

I want to give big thanks to both David and Brenton for their efforts and updates here, I can see by the amount of comments that you've enjoyed it.

I also want to thank you for staying put and showing patience. Hopefully "you" is plural.

Finally, I still need someone who can handle movie-news the way I do. Some payment is involved but don't quit your day-job.

Have a good one everybody!
