POSTAL - POSTER

September 30th 2007 14:57
Heavens this guy doesn't LEARN!!! Can Uwe Boll stop fiddling with the scripts he's given, cause don't think all movies just coincidentally happens to be awful. Look at the poster of Postal below and let me know what expectations it manages to deliver.

Exactly, none, which is probably right. Watch a clip over here.

ATONEMENT - POSTER

September 24th 2007 15:03
A lot of people say Atonement is one of the most overrated dramas this year. And I believe that, mostly because the director made Pride and Prejudice as well - a movie I think is incredibly overrated too.

But even if that's the case, I still find it exciting. The cast is picked correctly, Keira Knightley and James McAvoy do have a perfect chemistry between them, and Ian McEwan is a quite interesting writer.

I guess it's one of those "love or hate" movies. For the trailer and more info, head over here.

ONE MISSED CALL - POSTER

September 24th 2007 14:53
Usually I don't write about movies I myself think sound horrible, but One Missed Call has a poster that I couldn't but share with you. It's so incredibly disturbing and freaky at the same time, two things the movie probably is as well. In other words I guess it's oddly a successful poster. Did I just say that?

I warned you...

SOUTHLAND TALES - TRAILER

September 20th 2007 22:56
southland tales
Very exciting movie, Southland Tales, made by the same guy who brought us Donnie Darko, Richard Kelly, only this one with a far greater budget.

It's a complex movie to explain in few sentences, but basically it's set in the near future, summer 2008, and things happen to boxer Santaros (The Rock) after he receives amnesia.

Judging by the trailer, its style gets top score, but then again why didn't it review well in Cannes?

P.S., I LOVE YOU - TRAILER

September 20th 2007 22:41
P.S, I Love You caught my eye with a poster not long ago, and now a trailer has become available.

The movie is a romantic comedy, a genre usually looking the same, although this one has an original edge to it due to the concept. The romance breaks out only after the one part dies.

Released December 21.

LINDSAY LOHAN QUITS HOLLYWOOD?

September 17th 2007 19:03
lindsay lohan father
At least that's what she said, however it's not like she's the most stable person in... anywhere really. Lately Lindsay has been seen going in and out from rehab, with this month's favorite being the Cirque Lodge treatment center. There she also met with her father, who revealed:

When we finally came face to face we just clung on to each other and did not stop crying for at least half an hour.

When they finally started talking, this is what his daughter told him:

Daddy, I have done some terrible things and been addicted to drugs, but please believe me, I will never do drugs again. I hate Hollywood and I don't want to work there. I need a break and I am moving away. I will stop hanging around with the people that are bad for me.

That's true actually, but only if you act in some specific ways, like being spoiled and quite vaginal.

Then again, I don't know how supportive her father is, considering he was in prison recently for driving while intoxicated, amongst others. It's in the genes folks, nothing to do about it.

THE INCREDIBLE HULK - PHOTOS

September 17th 2007 18:46
There are some new interesting photos of The Incredible Hulk available, where you see smashed cars and other sad vehicles. Not sure, but probably they'll be seen in a scene where Mr. Hulk gets really pissed off.

Its release is June 13, 2008. For more info head over here.

JUNO - POSTER

Yesterday, we took a look at the trailer of Juno, today it's the poster.

Obviously it tries to catch an independent feeling, which nowadays usually is a good thing.

RAILS & TIES - TRAILER

September 16th 2007 18:06
Rails and Ties
Today is a good day for interesting trailers, like Juno that I posted about earlier. Rails & Ties is also a drama but not as much comedy.

It starts with a deadly collision between a train and car that leads to an unlikely bond between the train engineer and a young boy who escapes the carnage. [IMDB]

The trailer is quite heart-breaking, but usually that's a good thing. If a trailer manages to make us involved in the characters, what will the whole movie do? We'll see October 26th.

Did I say that it's directed by Clint Eastwood's daughter, Alison Eastwood? She really seems to follow in her father's steps, thankfully.

JUNO - TRAILER

juno
Juno is a highly interesting movie that sadly only gets released in limited amount 14:th of December (US).

The cast is great and talented - Ellen Page, Michael Cera, Jennifer Garner and Jason Bateman are just few names. And yes, the fact that two of these names are connected with Arrested Development assures it'll be a blast. Although don't get fooled, this is just as much drama.

Hopefully Juno is as good as its trailer.

THE WOLFMAN - PICTURE

September 14th 2007 09:54

Shots of movies in early production can be interesting, especially when they look funny and interesting.

The above is a pic from Benicio Del Toro's test shoot, where he strangles Rick Baker, the make-up guy behind movies like Men In Black and Planet of the Apes (2001). Truth is it just looks like he gave Benicio a nice tan, but then again maybe it's all he needs considering the scariness of his role interpretation.

Also, Anthony Hopkins is set to play the Wolfman's father. Written by Andrew Kevin Walker, with Se7en and 8MM as previous successes.

The Mummy 3
The above is actually the very first picture available of The Mummy 3: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, and it looks to be doing alright.

Adventure, humor and action is expected by it, and mostly pure entertaining. With the same cast such as Brendan Fraser and additions such as Jet Li it can only get better.

To be released August 1, 2008.

THE KINGDOM - POSTER

September 11th 2007 12:05
For you that saw the VMA's the other day noticed how Jamie Foxx went on and on about the release of this movie, The Kingdom. At least I have it tattooed in my mind now...

It's written by what seems to be a great writer, Matthew Michael Carnahan, who has several huge movies in production all at the same time. Lions for Lambs starring Tom Cruise and Meryl Streep, State of Play starring Brad Pitt, White Jazz with George Clooney. Get my point?

Here's the poster for The Kingdom though, and if you haven't seen the trailer it's here. Oh, and it opens up 28 September.

Yepp, that's actually the title for the sequel of The Pink Panther, The Next Pink Panther. This time Steve Martin returns with more stars than before, like John Cleese and Andy Garcia.

It's a long time until its release though, more than a year from today (February 2009), but at least we know how to call it now.

In the Toronto International Film Festival several new movies premiered their trailers, one of which was this one, Elizabeth: The Golden Age.

Cate Blanchett won the Best Actress honor for I'm Not There in Venice Film Festival, which yet again proves my claim that she's the best actress currently in business.

Judging by the trailer of Elizabeth: The Golden Age, some more awards are awaiting her after its opening, October 12.

THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM - REVIEW

September 9th 2007 11:32
bourne ultimatum
Cheers guys, it's been slow lately, but a review should get things in speed again. I'm sure many have either seen or already read few reviews of The Bourne Ultimatum elsewhere, but for those who haven't or who got some kind of a review-fetish, here it is.

PLOT
First off, you should see the first two films before this one. Otherwise there are good odds you won't understand poo.

Jason Bourne is beginning to remember things as he's on a search for the truth behind Operation Black Briar, part of Project Treadstone. Some columns by London-based reporter Simon Ross gets him into a hunt for his true identity and away from the "company" who wants him dead.

And a hunt it is, literally the whole movie.

CRITIQUE
As always Paul Greengrass manages to create a real atmosphere, that could make a viewer believe anything. It's the colors, the camera work, the light, everything. Paul could show the whole White House as aliens and we'd believe G.W. Bush is one. Hmm...

Of course the franchise "Bourne" has always been entertaining, not top-class but certainly in the better collection. They've managed to create a different character than the other similar heroes. Jason Bourne is after his OWN identity, not on a mission by the state or special group, as usually seen. He fights for himself.

bourne ultimatum
The fighting scenes in Bourne Ultimatum are well made, however I can't help but agree with so many other critics that the fast camera-movement during those scenes became a bit too much. I can understand Greengrass' choice, especially after the success with this technique in United 93, but when you get dizzy or the picture gets blurry it's time to slow down. And I'm not one of those "camera-movement-is-a- cheap-trick-and- looks-bad" guys.

As for the performances by the cast I was highly pleased. Matt Damon might not be "grown" as an actor just yet, but the improvement is clearly there. David Strathairn is good as always - now he's a guy that rarely fail. Joan Allen, although too skinny (over 50 after all), she's quite enjoyable on the big screen. A stealthy woman.

The story itself was smart and surprisingly original, the fight scenes weren't boring and the writers made sure not to have a lot of clichés included. Ok, there was a clear one when Matt tells Julia Stiles how he can see every face he killed and so on, but that's pretty much it.

Oh, the soundtrack was nice as well. Suspenseful at times and soft at others.

CONCLUSION
Recommended for the big screen, it sure is worth your money. Don't expect to exit with a whole new meaning about life, however it's one of the better action-flicks. But if you're a "camera-movement-is-a- cheap-trick-and- looks-bad"-guy a rental is more than enough for you.

8,5/10

HITMAN - POSTER

September 5th 2007 21:20
When you start to feel a movie rub itself on you, then you know its release is approaching. Not long ago we got the trailer of Hitman and now a brand new poster.

I think it looks more like a poster for the game than the movie. At least they could have the actor's face on it instead of a computer-generated one.

IN THE VALLEY OF ELAH - TRAILER

September 5th 2007 05:15
The last time Paul Haggis directed a movie, Crash, it won the Oscar for best picture. Now that his next directorial effort is due, all are waiting to see what he can create without Ludacris in his cast, because apparently it is believe that it was Luda who swayed the Academy into making this decision. Who knows if this is true?

In The Valley of Elah is Haggis' meditation on the impact war has on those who fight it. It stars Tommy Lee Jones as a father who is searching for his son, who is missing after returning from Iraq. Charize Theron plays a police detective and Susan Sarandon plays Lee's wife.

Apparently, Haggis wrote the script based on an article that appeared in PLAYBOY magazine, so does that mean Haggis is one of those guys who reads Playboy 'for the articles.' Again, who knows?

In The Valley of Elah opens on September 21 in the States.

MAGNUM PI - THE FILM VERSION

September 4th 2007 23:14
MAGNUM PI - THE FILM VERSION

The epidemic continues...I didn’t know that Magnum PI was going to be made into a film. I don’t know if I could bear seeing those loud, over-coloured shirts on the big screen. Or Nicholas Cage’s tatty moustache. Or all the hairy chests. Eek...

Anyhoo, Cage is rumoured to be up for the title role in the film adaptation of the 80s TV series which will be directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber. According to The Daily Express, "Nicolas likes the mix of comedy and crime-solving in the script." The paper also claims that the project fell apart 18 months ago when Ricky Gervais rejected the notion of playing Higgins to George Clooney's Magnum. I can’t really see Gervais playing a subservient role.

Apparently if Cage accepts the invitation, the search for a Higgins will begin. Back in January, there were rumours that Matthew McConaughey was up for the lead role and William H. Macy to play Higgins.

The film is expected to be released in 2009. It's never dull in Hollywood.

HALLOWEEN REMAKE IS NUMBER ONE AT BOX OFFICE

Just the picture of the new remake of Halloween scared me, so I think there’s little chance that I will see the film unless I take an entourage of support with me.

Rob Zombie's R-rated remake was number one at the box office on the Labor Day weekend, grossing (an apt word choice I thought, couldn't resist) approximately $26.5 million from 3,472 theatres. It looks like it will far outpace the previous record-holder for best Labor Day opening, Transporter 2.

Superbad is still hanging in there, no longer number one but in second place. Rogue Pictures' sports parody Balls of Fury placed third.

Halloween stars Malcolm McDowell, Sheri Moon, Tyler Mane, Brad Dourif and Danielle Harris.

The film isn't a straight remake of the 1978 original, rather a modernised reimagining. It still doesn’t entice me to take the step but of course I’m a big wimp.

Halloween is scheduled to be released internationally in October 2007. That leaves you a couple of months to brace yourself, folks, I think I might need longer...

NATALIE IMBRUGLIA'S NEW FILM - ELISE

September 3rd 2007 07:03
ATALIE IMBRUGLIA'S NEW FILM - ELISE

Natalie Imbruglia is coming back to Australia this month to start rehearsals for the new film, Elise. The reason why the story caught my attention was that she stated that she needed to practice her Aussie accent as she has lost it from being in England for so many years.

So, being the investigative and thorough blogger that I am, I decided to see if it was true. I found a clip on YouTube and yes, she does have quite an English inflection, but the Aussie twang is still in there too.

According to the SMH, she stated, "I've set aside my personal time to sort of ... well, I have to get my accent back." Apparently she misses her Aussie voice and is looking forward to its return. Fair enough.

Elise is about a woman whose life is troubled by the disappearance of her sister 20 years earlier. Filming will happen in Adelaide in about 6 weeks. She also has a CD due out this month, Glorious.

What a busy girl.

Here's the excerpt:

NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 2

September 2nd 2007 09:49
NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 2

I just read on WorstPreviews that the sequel to Night at the Museum will be called Another Night. Not the most inventive sequel title I’ve ever heard, but unfortunately no-one asked my opinion, so I guess it will stay.

The film will still be set at the Museum of Natural History in New York and Ben Stiller will again play the security guard and Robin Williams will return as Theodore Roosevelt.

The original opened last year in December and earned $251 million within the States. It became even more popular internationally, earning an additional $322 million for a total worldwide box office of $573 million. It was also top of the DVD charts for several weeks.

It hasn’t been determined whether Shawn Levy, the original director will return to lead the sequel, but 20th Century Fox has already confirmed that the budget for the film exceeds $100 million. Wowee, that’s a lot of money, I hope it’s spent well.

CLINT EASTWOOD MAY RETURN TO ACTING

September 2nd 2007 06:33
CLINT EASTWOOD MAY RETURN TO ACTING

It seems that Clint Eastwood might back on our screens after all. Entertainment Weekly interviewed him and asked him this question, to which he replied:

"You never say never, but right now, I've moved to the back of the camera, and I've sort of been enjoying it there. So we'll have to wait and see on that."

"If I don't do it again, it won't break my heart, because I've had a good, long run, but if something good comes along down the line... If something like Million Dollar Baby comes along again, maybe I will," he added.

After his elusive answer, Eastwood also mentioned that he has read a few scripts with thoughts of starring in the films, but up to this point, he has turned them all down. "I've read a couple. But not enough to bring me back in front," he admits. "I like the back of the camera."

Eastwood also revealed that his next project The Changeling will start production in October. "I'm preparing that right now, and we're starting that — let's see, we're almost in September. When we get to September, it'd be the next month, in October."

Apparently, Paul Haggis, the Million Dollar Baby screenwriter offered Eastwood the lead role in his upcoming movie, In the Valley of Elah, which the actor/director turned down. The role eventually went to Tommy Lee Jones.

So it looks like we will have to see what happens next. It could be interesting...
