After some great posters we can now watch the preview trailer of American Gangster. And I must say I'm just a tiny bit disappointed. At least I'm not as excited anymore.
Mainly the reason is because of the way it looks and the slow story it seems it'll have. The constant rap-music doesn't make it any better. Hopefully I'm wrong.
I'm sure, however, that it will be a movie worth watching with a smart plot and awesome performances by both Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe. Nice directing by Ridley Scott is of course also something to look forward to.

Wow. Another Gangster film.
Can't wait until Hollywood does their next Shakespeare remake.
Surely they could have combined the two in this one.
It just looks like such an original, non-formulaic plot.
And no big-name actors or directors to
getsuck in dumb audiences to go.The producers will spend more money advertising and marketing this film than it would cost to finance ten Australian films.

There's a few films I'll watch before I go out of my way to watch this one.
I'd rather see all the films from this year's Cannes comp, first. Especially the new Cohen Bros one.

Oohh, David... so cynical... you mean, like, Macbeth?
Surely you must know by now that there are very VERY few original ideas (if any), and the greatness is in the execution?
And also that the trailers can make a film look completely different?

Yep. All ten of 'em about drug addicts living in the suburbs trying to 'find themselves'.
The sad truth is that at present, generally speaking, the Australian Film Industry is just as formulaic and marketing-focused as the US - we just don't have the population or the international market savvy to pull it off.
The only decent films at the moment out of Oz seem to be the independents, which the industry quickly claims as it's own, having nurtured it from the ground up from day dot, when in truth, the reason they are independent is 'coz no one would give them a cent in the first place...
