DiCAPRIO AND RIDLEY SCOTT IN BODY OF LIES
April 9th 2007 13:29
First of all, I got to share my point of view on DiCaprio. He's a decent actor, sometimes more than that. There was a period when I didn't like him at all, when I thought he was a wannabe only playing with his looks.
Now he's all mature and getting bigger, harder, roles. I like him now, actually think he's one of the best in current Hollywood. Sure, some might say his acting seems a bit plain, but not many can do the same "plain" performance as he does. Makes any sense?
He goes on and on with Scorsese and Spielberg, which is not a bad thing but it still feels like those directors are just too big, too "studio". They don't explore his talent fully. In comparison, Blood Diamond (directed by Edward Zwick) had a whole different level from The Departed, at least for DiCaprio. A level of higher caliber.
But because DiCaprio plays along so well with the big director's cameras, now it's Ridley Scott's turn. They're actually gonna adapt David Ignatius' novel Body of Lies. The plot is basically about Ferris, a young CIA agent, that is made station chief for Jordan, and decides to employ a ruse to stop Al Qaeda.
Yes, DiCaprio will be the agent.
Ridley has made some of my favorite adventure movies, Gladiator and Kingdom of Heaven. If you haven't seen them, do that. Lately I was a bit disappointed with his drama A Good Year, but it was still cute and stuff.
Meanwhile, look after American Gangster, probably one of the best this year (released November 2).

My Apologetics
A goiod script, lines and director gives him a chance to be a good actor.

I agree 99%. Scorsese and Spielberg are very good directors, but still there's something not kicking it off like it should. To be honest I don't know what gets him to that great state he had in The Beach and Blood Diamond. Maybe only the REALLY challenging parts?

I think LDC was awesome in The Departed, but just about everyone was...

Yea, however DiCaprio's roles are all good roles, but not as demanding as some. He seems to get it right when the role is really hard to do. Weird guy.
The Departed was good and everyone was great, but I still think LDC looked a bit plain. In a good way though - it was great but he can do better.
Have a nice one,
