FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER - REVIEW ROUND UP

June 9th 2007 19:56
Fantastc Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

This is just a head start, and hopefully we'll get more sources in this round up.

A reader over at AICN sent them a review of Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. It doesn't look good and frankly I didn't expect anything better than the first one. Here's an excerpt:

The director Tim Story and his band of screenwriters have once again broken the hearts of FF fans all over. They have no respect. They have no understanding on what makes the ‘Fantastic Four’ story work, or any story for that matter. I gave Tim Story a break the first time around, but not this time. He should’ve looked back at the first one, compared it to the comic book films that work and just said, “Damn! I gotta sit this one out before I do it all over again!” However, he didn’t do that. He looked at the numbers from the first one and assumed that money always equals success. Now as for the screenwriters; give them a Cartoon Network show and let them have at it. If they have any talent, it could be realized there.

However, good things are said about the Silver Surfer himself, so there's nothing wrong with the special effects. Then again, they're really overrated.

fp,

I haven't read any reviews on this one, only seen the shorts and somehow, just somehow I'm feeling that this will end up being better than the recent Spidey sequel?

Just a gut feeling, but amongst this CGI genre, I love a purely escapist wild ride for my $10, and for me, I feel that his will deliver, where spidey just sort of petered out?

Lilla ...

PS Off topic a bit, but Pirates III was totally wild and I loved it, I didn't find it confusing at all and only realised (late) that at the end of each of these films AFTER THE FINAL CREDITS there is a short little scene that bears watching to reveal the "truth" or essence of the next one.... Did anyone see the one at the end of Part III - apparently (and you can correct me on this) it reveals a part IV???

Stanley,

I've heard that stars have glow around us "normal" people =) Don't worry I won't tell your GF what you said. Just give her the URL to this post. LOL

Lilla,

I don't think it can be compared to Spidey 3, for the reason that they got completely different styles. FF is aimed more towards the younger audience. However, if you mean the general movie-value, I think it actually CAN be better.

As for Pirates 3... I'm glad you liked it but we have to agree to disagree. It was too long for its own good and the plot didn't make sense from time to time. But yes, it wasn't all bad.

After the final credits nothing big happens, so I'm glad I didn't stick around 15 more minutes to see a short sequence of ...

SPOILER
Keira looking at the horizon with her son (!) when Will appears from the water as the captain of the Flying Dutchman. He's obviously the father. Maybe we'll see the son in a follower?

END SPOILER

AE,

I was hoping for something good too, but I guess we'll get the same no-brain but still amusing ride as the first one.

Cheers everybody!

Everyone professionally involved in this shoddy, tacky, tedious waste of time should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves. Sets the bar so low even Guy Ritchie wouldn't be able to fail this miserably. Utterly atrocious.

I got a chance to watch this movie first in my country(Indonesia).
I'm a superheroes movie fan.
This sequel is a lot better than the first one and I think this movie deserves a better rating because Fantastic Four is a family superheroes, it's not spider-man or batman. I truly enjoy every moment in this film. Every character is developing, I just love what the film maker did with it.
Dr. Doom is more badass and silver surfer is really cool, even more cool when he lost his power(became a make up effect rather than CG).
So, there is so many negatif review in fantastic four movie but i say(if you want to see it) try to enjoy the movie, it's really a fun.

Hi peeker

I haven't watched it yet (I watched the Transformers instead) but I think I'll still sit this through hopefully by the end of the week and remember to shut down my intelligence when I step into the cinema hall and just enjoy the movie.
