GRINDHOUSE TO SPLIT IN DVDs
April 3rd 2007 22:16
Different sources came over different information, and through an examination there's some final conclusions that can be made. Some sad ones if you ask me.
First of all, there are gonna be two different DVDs with the two movies in Grindhouse, Death Proof and Planet Terror. Why in the world would they want to split a movie with two parts that are supposed to be connected to each other? Oh, money.
Secondly, the initial versions won't have anything amazing. Planet Terror will contain only the film itself from beginning until the end of that film's credits and Death Proof from that point, through the half-time trailers and to the end.
Then several months later the special editions will be released, containing the missing reels, no flicker effects and "correct" color. In other words no Grindhouse-style anymore. Why in the world would they want to do that? Oh, money.
Finally Machete might also come out as a feature straight to DVD. Its trailer is included in Grindhouse. Why? Oh, more money.
Anyway, I guess I don't REALLY care, just a bit. I don't have high expectations. After all, Quentin did the same with Kill Bill. Volume 1 & 2? C'mon!
What are your thoughts?

I don't really understand what you mean by your comment, but I suppose why more money. Or?
Anyway, Grindhouse with both movies: $20. Two different DVDs with the movies: $20 & $20=$40.
Another special release later on? $40 & $40=$80 for a movie that should be bought for at least half the price.

it's my sorry attempt at being a smartarse. I'll hang it up.
Yes it sucks. Especially from these guys - it's just silly. I can't handle the new trend of re-hashing the same content in a different sleeve... what's worse is people buy it!!
Star Wars is classic case - First it was the original remastered VHS tapes (pre Episode 1), then the Special Editions, then the prequel trilogy that went though the single releases and subsequently a boxed set with extra stuff in it (grrr..) and then the re-release of the original trilogy on DVD.
Yep. Definitely about more money.

I had Star Wars in mind too, but also Kill Bill (that I mention). Same movie, cut in half and released individually. More money

It's not word of mouth, it's a collection from different interviews and announcements made.
In matter of fact, the movie will probably be re-released separately to the cinemas in a couple of weeks in order to make more profit.
That's Hollywood.

I hope they release it soon, I don't want to wait forever.
Come on, release a American DvD version so I can buy it and get it shipped to Australia

Yes, Kill Bill as an entire film would've been too long and I wasn't so bothered that it was split up, but I'm not so sure about this one...

That sounds like a good plan. Like you said, if they did it with in CIty then there's a good chance they'll do it again. It's good to hope anyway,

I mean, ponder over this for a second - no "Werewolf Women of the SS", "Don't", or "Thanksgiving". And I just don't look at this from an entertainment perspective. All of Roth's, Zombie's, and Wright's time and effort to contribute to "Grindhouse" are all left on the cutting room floor and tossed down the tubes. If you really look at it it's quite an insult to the directors and other actors involved, IMHO. If I were them I'd be pissed off to no end.
So until Grindhouse is released intact, on one DVD, with the fake trailers, just as it was in the theater, I absolutely refuse to touch it. I absolutely refuse, and I hope that both DVD's are relegated to bargain bin status. I take that back. Garage sale status. I take that back, too. The Atari release of "E.T.", all chucked in a concrete-filled ditch status.

Good thing you understand your retard remark was indeed unnecessary.
Of course they are two movies, but let me tell you, if they were successful on the big screen as one, you would certainly see them together in the DVD as well. Now they simply have to separate them in order to gain the loss.
The point is, it's not fair to do that since they trick the fans that actually want to buy the movies as "Grindhouse" and not PT and DP. It's them who now need to buy two discs and then again when the SE gets released.
Anyway, I think there are two sides to everything...

The fact that people are complaining about the double-feature not being released on DVD suggests that more people didn't understand the film's concept than originally thought.
Personally, I think that boycotting the PT/DP DVDs until Weinstein Co. releases the double feature on DVD is like boycotting releases of original 1970s grindhouse flicks that aren't available on DVD as a double feature edited with trailers for other grindhouse movies and period snipes.
I DRINK YOUR BLOOD and I EAT YOUR SKIN aren't out as a double feature... and "Drink Your Blood" was never sold theatrically on its own! Let's boycott whoever owns that film for not releasing the original double feature version
....yeah right

Hence why the trailers said "An evening at the Grindhouse". So yes, initially the DVD's are being released to the people who like the movies for what they are. Sort of like how it's done in real life for real grindhouse films of the past, though of course on VHS, if they ever got released.
But don't worry all you unintelligent fans who don't understand concept, though screamed adoration for the shitty Kill Bill Vol. 1 which was heavily concept based and sucked because of it. Rest assured Robert Rodriguez states in the end of the "10 - Minute Film School" on Planet Terror, to look forward to the "10 - Minute Cooking School" on the upcoming 2-Disc "Grindhouse" release. That's right, not DP, or PT special edition. But that double feature everyone keeps bitching for, even though it will never be the same because you won't be in a theater.
Personally I can't wait to get it, then I can own my Grindhouse, DP, and PT. Being able to watch them however I want. Be that a pseudo-grindhouse experience, or the full seperate films. Because we all know it anyways, DP and PT were totally different from each other, and definitely 2 different films without much of a connection at all. Other than maybe a few repeat characters, but hey those repeat characters are also in Kill Bill and From Dusk Till Dawn 1 and 2.
Shit I guess that means they should all be released as a 6-film feature. I mean they're connected right?

As for Death Proof... Having sat through both halves of the plotless, derivative, repetitive, ugly, boring, self-serving Kill Bill, I have to say that the only way I'll watch Meister QT's latest masterpiece of badness is if he comes over to my house with a very large certified check. My time is limited, and there are just too many directors with bigger talents and smaller egos.

Don't give me this "it's all about money" and "it's one film" bullshit. Planet Terror and Death Proof are two seperate movies. If you complain about not wanting to spend money to buy them individually, you don't understand the concept of a grindhouse theater.
