IRON MAN - THE COSTUME DESIGN

May 2nd 2007 21:54
Few days ago we had a look at Robert Downey Jr. as the Iron MAN, now we're gonna take a look at the IRON Man.

EW got a first look at the costume, designed by Oscar-winning F/X guru Stan Winston. I like the fact that it's very faithful to the comic's costume of Iron Man. It's just a bit adjusted, in a good way. Looks even cooler.

Another thing I'm glad to read is that Favreau, the director, says it's gonna be ''a decidedly adult superhero story'. We've seen it work before, with Batman Begins nevertheless, so it's the right step. After all Iron Man was kinda adult from the comics already, with his drinking problems and all...

Anyway here's the costume:

Very cool costume! I always liked Iron Man ... what was that famous episode where he battled a mammoth villian called something like Behemoth or Gargantuan or something .... and Iron Man had his suit crushed and appeared to have died ...??
A wonder what Rob Bottin would have done? He designed the amazing RoboCop suit.

Bryn!

I don't know the episode =)

The RoboCop costume is cool too. However, this one rocks.

Cheers,

Yeah, it is sensational. Stan Winston excells in that area, his animatronic work on the Jurassic movies and Aliens was superb.

Looks very cool and hopefully they translate it to film well.

Absolutely stupendous. A co-worker friend rightyl pointed out that it is based on the IM #231-280 era suit. This movie has some serious potential. This, The Dark Night and the Ang Lee-less Hulk are my must-sees for next year.

Yeah, I've always liked ol' Shellhead, and it's always a good sign when the filmakers respect their target audience.

I wonder if the idea of powered armor was ever brought up prior to Starship Troopers (The classic Heinlein novel, not the majestically stupid movie: "Yeah, we only had to lose a million or so ground-pounders before someone remembered that quaint 20th Century tradition of air support.").
