IS KATIE HOLMES THE NEW WONDER WOMAN?

IS KATIE HOLMES NEW WONDER WOMAN?

According to worstreviews.com, Star magazine has reported that Katie Holmes met with agents and producers to discuss her being in the cinema adaptation of Wonder Woman

"The movie's only at the discussion state, but Katie feels this role as a kick-ass superhero will put her back in the public eye," a source revealed. "She wants to show her stuff, and she wants to prove that she can stand on her own two feet without Tom's help."

Fair enough. I can understand that rationale. It sounds like she is seriously thinking of taking the role.

Apparently the movie version of Wonder Woman has been in development for a while. There have been several scripts, a change of directors and many actresses who were rumoured for the role, including Sandra Bullock, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Mariah Carey and Sophia Bush. Katie is now the recent contender they are considering.

According to IMDB, William M. Marston is the film writer who worked on seven episodes of the television series in 1976-1977.

Many people think that the original Wonder Woman Linda Carter who played in the original television series during 1976-1979 should be cast.

We’ll just have to see what happens. The film is scheduled for release in 2009 so we have a while to wait.

Mmmm.....This is a topic close to my heart. Huge Wonder Woman fan. I've been trying to work out who I'd like to see best in this role for a while now.

It needs to be a real woman like Linda Carter, but I have a feeling she might be a little too long in the tooth for it now. Sorry Linda. You know I love you.

I think it might need to be someone a little more.....um....buxom? Eliza Dushku (Faith from Buffy) would be good I think....but not Catherine or Sandra - someone in their 20's or 30's would be preferred, surely?! Not being ageist, just that's what the role requires.

While Katie's a good actor, she doesn't really strike me as the "kick-ass" type. Is Joss Whedon still directing?

Cheers
CC

Hi CC

Good to see you as always, hope you're well.

As I wrote this post I realised that it mattered to me too. I loved Wonder Woman and even had boots like hers that I was so proud of wearing.

Like you said, Linda would still be perfect, but unfortunately there is the age factor. Yeah, I couldn't believe those other suggestions, I can't see any of those women working well in the role. They need someone gutsy and convincing. As for Mariah Carey, I hope that was a joke! Your suggestions are good, I can see someone like Eliza Dushku working....

I couldn't find out who was directing....I looked in several places and there was no word, so either it's still undecided or I just couldn't find it.

Yes, while I think Katie might give it a good shot, I'm not sure she has enough ooomph....maybe we can see it if she takes on such a different role......

Give it to Katie. I dont think the original Wonder Woman can still swing that gold lariat.....
Ive had faith in Katie since 'dawson' she broke my heart marrying Tom but yanno, what can you do?

Hi Kleo

I would be interested in seeing Katie in the role....I think she has some hidden zest that I'm hoping she could unleash away from Tom-I'm-so-sanctimonious Cruise.

Like CC and I were saying, we think someone with some oomph needs to do the role....and she could be the one....

As much as I would hate to admit it (as I am not a huge Katie Holmes fan), she could be very good for the role. I thought Charisma Carpenter (the girl from Buffy and Angel) was going to do it? I suppose they needed someone with a well-known name. But if it were up to me, I would give it to someone up and coming - maybe the girl from Transformers. She looks very much like Linda Carter.

HI fp,

I'm surprised that Dusk hasn't been here yet to shout : Nooo-ooo-oooo-oo, on this one?

You know she favours Kathryn Zeta-J and I have to agree with her, although if they do go with it?

Well Katie could surprise us all with a good turnout for the part?

It'll be delivious to wait and see what happens on this one...

Hi Aimzster

Thanks for your comments. Do you mean Megan Fox from Transformers? Charisma Carpenter was one of the contenders as well as the others mentioned, but this is simply an update on who they are considering. At the risk of sounding like a cynic, it may not happen for many reasons or they may find someone else to offer the part to.....

I think it's a matter of just waiting to see what happens....!!

Hi Lilla

Good to see you, thanks for your comments.

I can't see Catherine ZJ in the part....I see her as being too feminine without the zest needed. She certainly is sexy but maybe not gutsy enough, but that's just my opinion. I'm thinking that Katie will surprise us.....

Where are you, Dusk?

Hi Tracy

When I first saw the title of this post I thought it just sounded bizarre. Then I realised Katie wouldn't be too bad ... a hell of a lot better than Tom!!!

Seriously I think she would work well in this role.

Hi Andrea

I know what you mean. When I found the info I thought I would make it jokey and then as I was writing it, I thought it seemed like quite a good idea. Yes, she is definitely a lot better than Tom...in so many ways!!

Thanks for popping in,

Tracy

Why her? I can't remember her in a good movie. Don't say 'Batman Begins' because she was the only thing that didn't really fit in the movie, sorry just me I guess.

Hi Jaz

I don't think everyone will agree that she might be OK for the role....it's debatable and we don't all have to agree

Actually, even though I think Katies a great little actor, Ive gotta agree with Jaz on 'Batman Begins' I adore Christian Bale since 'American Psycho' (No surprise? hehe) and I thought Batman Begins was bloody AWESOME(the scene on the ice lake with Neelson - WOW oh oh oh) but in the first scene you see Katie? I was like - "Christ its half of TomKat. Thats torn it" She did well but like Jaz said, didnt 'fit'.
I dont think its the 'Kat' part thats the problem there.....

Hi Kleo

I'm going back and forth on this, one minute I think it would be interesting to see her in such a different role and that she could do it, the next moment, I think she's too soft for it.

Yes, I love Christian Bale too, he was amazing in both the films you mentioned.

We have a long wait, its release is in 2009!!

It is Wonder Woman, not Wonder GIRL!

Plus it would be nice to have someone with a little charisma in the part. All the names bandied about are terrible, Sandra Bullock, next it will be Jennifer Garner...and Mariah, why?

Such a shame Monica Belluci won't be approached now.

Hi John

Your comment made me laugh. Yes, Katie is more of a girl than a women...but who knows this role could catapult her into gutsy womanhood. I agree they are considering some dreadful names....Mariah Carey?!!

I think I'm the perfect contender for the part so they don't need to look any more, plus I'm available at the moment.

i was and still am a huge fan of Linda Carter and wonder woman. i have an idea for someone to fill the movie role, how about Catherine Bell? she is strong but still has a soft sexy side.

OMG NO!!! None of those actresses!!!! NOOOOOooooo!
People, a successful comic movie is when you appeal to the comic nerds and closet comic nerds. Stay true to the comic. Stop searching for a lame ass actress who so happens to be "pretty". I refused to see the catwoman movie b/c of the actress choice and the fact they did not stay true to the comic. I saw it later on tv with an open mind; it was as sooooo lame and the acting was horrible. I'm glad I didn't waste my money on it.
Think X-men when making a bad ass comic film. That's what I want to see.
I want to see a strong, bad ass woman, who can pull off the bad assness naturally... someone like Angelina J. but less tattoos. Even a none-A lister is better than those choices.

Call me crazy, but I was thinking someone like Sarah Lancaster would fit. She's got the look down.

I always loved Wonderwoman and as a pesonal opinion, I can only and always have imagined Monica Bellucci playing that role. Nothing against Katie Holmes but she just doesn't click.
