IS SAM WORTHINGTON THE NEW GI JOE?
November 1st 2007 05:21
Well, it’s looking as though well-known Aussie actor, Sam Worthington may score the role of GI Joe rather than George Clooney as previously rumoured.
Worthington is best known for his roles in the highly successful Foxtel television series, Love My Way and for films such as Macbeth (2006), Somersault (2004) and Dirty Deeds (2002).
Fox is currently in talks with Paramount Pictures to ensure that Worthington will have completed his role as Jake Sully in James Cameron's upcoming film Avatar by the planned starting date of February 2008.
Worthington has an increasingly impressive portfolio, including an AFI Award Best Actor in a Leading Role for Somersault (2004) as well as being nominated for several roles in both Somersault and Dirty Deeds. He seems to have a prosperous career ahead of him.
It is unsure whether the decision is actually final yet, it could be that Worthington is being considered for the role of Duke rather than GI Joe, so we will just have to wait and see.
Either way, it is definite that whether Clooney or Worthington wins the role, the sex factor will be high.

Thanks, it’s good to see you.
I think both actors are good contenders for the part. I think it’s a given that George Clooney is a fine actor and newer actor Sam Worthington certainly showed his ability in Love My Way. It is an excellent gritty Australian series that dealt with some painful human situations with integrity. I also thought he did well in Somersault, a quiet sublime film.
On a more superficial note, both are handsome men that are good actors, so it doesn't seem like we can lose

I think Worthington is a great actor, and he would probably be very good in this, but I don't like him that much otherwise. He seems kind of arrogant and abrupt, and lacking in humour - definitely a turn off for me. But then I was never one to drool over Clooney either - again, fine actor though.
Great post.

I don't think I've ever heard Worthington speak, but I've admired his performances in Love My Way and Somersault.
I used to lust after Clooney, but now I'm older and wiser...but he is definitely an excellent actor. We will just have to wait and see what happens...
Good to see you, thanks for your comments,

Fair enough, I guess not everyone will be happy if he gets the role. Would you prefer Clooney or someone else?
