JESSICA SIMPSON TO STAR IN PRETTY WOMAN REMAKE
December 20th 2007 09:36
The latest word on the street according to OK! Magazine is that Jessica Simpson wants to remake the film, Pretty Woman.
According to an undisclosed source, close to Simpson, Jessica believes that: "She thinks this one's got 'hit' written all over it," and apparently her father and manager, Joe is announcing that he believes she is the next Julia Roberts.
Musically, Simpson has earned seven Billboard Top 40 hits, and has three gold and two multi-platinum RIAA-certified albums. Impressive, I guess.
Her first acting appearance was as Daisy Duke in the movie remake of The Dukes of Hazzard in 2005. In its opening weekend, it rose to number one number 1, with the only other new opening that weekend being a low-budget independent film. Ultimately, it collected $110.5 million world-wide, despite being far less financially successful outside the U.S.
Her second film, Employee of the Month, was released in 2006 and despite sub-standard reviews, merited almost $12 million in its opening weekend, debuting at number four following Open Season.
Simpson's third film, Blonde Ambition, is due to be released in 2008. Filming for The Witness, described as a spy comedy, was scheduled for the same time but has been postponed.
So, let’s see how she goes with her next venture. Jessica is certainly aiming high, seeing as Pretty Woman earned over $460 million in worldwide ticket sales, on a $14 million budget. It could be an interesting remake experiment...

I agree that Hollywood really needs some new ideas rather than all the rehashing they’re doing lately...but I suppose some people are watching them so it is likely to continue.

I'm going to sound jaded, but I have a feeling that if it happens, she will probably do well. She's definitely got the looks that will keep people titillated and interested....

I like how you think she would work in the role, acting skills aside!! You're right, I really think it would be her facial skills that see her through.
Thanks for your comment

Thanks for your comments. I really have my doubts about this film, but was just admitting that as she is attractive that is likely to work in her favour.
It won''t be my kind of film and I do agree with your adage: if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

A minute later, it hasn't changed all that much. Obviously I can't articulate why, but I can't think of anything worse. To make a sequel of it, and to have it star Dimwit Simpson??? Terrible. TERRIBLE!!!

I really really hope this wont happen, since a)the original is a classic and b) what made Roberts attractive was her style and brains, rather than her plain looks that a million other actresses already have as well. Especially Jessica's look.
We'll see...

It’s a preposterous thought really isn’t it? I’m just hoping it’s one of those ideas that doesn’t actually happen....
Dimwit Simpson is an extremely apt description of her....but as I keep thinking, her looks will probably see her through and her acting skills will be overlooked.....

I agree, as Anon said: it ain't broken so don't fix it.
It just doesn't seem right to have someone like Simpson in the role. I've assumed she will be overly sexual whereas Julia Roberts did a good job of being sexy but at the same time, she had a brain and there was more to her than just her looks. The film worked, so why try and do something else to it? Very frustrating.
Good to see you, peeker, hope you're well.
