JOHNNY DEPP AS SWEENEY TODD
March 28th 2007 11:22
By now we all know that Depp is playing the role of Todd in the film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's musical. He's currently in England shooting and PerezHilton already got some photos of him, looking weird in a Tim Burton style.
I look forward to this movie and as a Burton and Depp fan I don't expect anything less than perfect.

I'm not a huge Tim Burton fan to be honest. I loved Ed Wood though, so I'm probably sounding like a hypocrite already ...
Does the musical feature any of the Sweeney Todd bladed carnage??

Hi Bryn.
Hi Lilla.
I too long to see him in a more "normal" performance. He does it very well, like Finding Neverland and Gilbert Grape (both two of my favorite movies).
Johnny is a master when it comes to adapting a character and making him his own, so I have absolutely no worries if he'll pull it of or not. After all by now he's used to it (Edward Scissorhands).
To top things of, I love musicals. However, I don't know what is included or anything at this point.

Believe it or not, I feel a bit stupid right now for haven't seen most of those. I like the more old or modern stuff, these are a bit in the middle if you know what I mean. But I will certainly try to get a hold of some.
Have a good one,

Where do I start? Without particular order:
Singing in the Rain
Moulin Rouge
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Corpse Bride
The Producers
Chicago
Rent
Phantom of the Opera
I really can't think of more, especially the old ones I like, but I enjoy pretty much all musicals.

Moulin Rouge I hated, horrible cover versions sung off key..
Nightmare Before Xmas is one of my favourite movies, period...awesome music and animation.
Corpse Bride not as good as X mas but still a fun film.
The Producers- Love the original Zero Moistel version, hated teh Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick one..thoughthey were awesome on stage together.
Chicago was just flat for me, seemed to try to hard. Great on stage though.
Rent I couldnt sit through, though I didnt mind teh stage version at the time.
Phantom Of teh Opera I love some of the early versions (EG: Lon Chaney) and Brian De Palmas Rock interpreation is good too...didnt really like the Gerard Butler one, though he was good in it. Again loved the Micheal Crawford stage play.

I didn't think all of them were great, but they're still kinda entertaining. For instance the new The Producers was not a good movie overall, but the music and Will Ferrell, how can you not laugh?
I would love to see something on stage but never had the change. Some day. some time...
