JURASSIC PARK IV NEWS

August 14th 2007 10:09
Gosh, there has been so much sequel talk lately hasn’t there? The next one to discuss is Jurassic Park IV.

Universal Pictures has started the casting process for the upcoming fourth installment of Jurassic Park. Plans for this installment have been talked about since June 2002, when director Steven Spielberg told Starlog magazine that he planned to produce Jurassic Park IV with director Joe Johnston who helmed Jurassic Park III.

It seems that at this stage Laura Dern has confirmed her return as Dr. Ellie Sattler, whereas Sam Neill will not be returning. But seeing as things seem to change so quickly in the film world, I’ll wait and see what happens before accepting that as truth. Though I wouldn't mind if they changed Laura Dern as I'm not a huge fan, in fact she drives me a bit nutty.

Although a script was written in February 2006, it’s not sure whether changes have been made or even if a completely new one has been created. Either way, the script is sounding ridiculous. There is talk of dinosaurs carrying weapons and using them in battle scenes. Sounds more like a comedy than a thriller to me. And if this is true, I can't wait to hear what Steven Spielberg has to say about his beloved franchise and how the film got to this stage.

We'll find out soon enough, since production begins in Kauai, Hawaii later this year.

Again, we’ll just have to wait. It might even be another film that goes straight to DVD and hops over the cinema step.

without sam neil it won't be jurrasic park.

I jus thope it doesn't try to be like the first and end up like the second, much rather it turn out like the third, more action oriented with the orchestra from the first.

Also, in a city? yuck, should stay in the jungle, last time a dino was put in the city it sucked (godzilla).

Hi Ahmed

Yeah, it would be strange without Neil, but I wouldn't miss Dern.

I only saw the first one and despite the hype, it was scary in an over-the-top kind of way which I enjoyed.

And yes, a city setting sounds ridiculous. How the hell could they hide in a city? Behind a sky-scraper? I think a dinosaur invasion would be rather obvious in a city.

LOL! Even though that would be naff it's so funny thinking about it.

I'm not sure how I feel about another Jurassic Park, sure they can be fun to watch if you catch it on tv and nothing better is on but maybe 3 is enough.

Take Care.

Hi Sarah

We seem to be following each other tonight don’t we?!

Naff is a perfect term to describe the sounds of this film. Cheesy is another one that popped into my head.

I don’t think I’ll be seeing this one....like you said, 3 is enough....

Hi Jaz

I like what you said about 4 not being the magic number, that seems to be the general consensus from this post. I hadn't heard of Turok, so I looked it up and yes there are some similarities!

Thanks for your comments,

Tracy

AHEM! EXCUSE ME!
Are we forgetting number two? No Sam Neil in that one, and there was dniosaurs in the city. It did ok, and I really like a redhead over a blonde for my 'hot chick in action film' I love neil's work, but I can kick it with Goldblum.
They could make it work. Id be very disappionted to see the end of the story in dinos with guns.....
I want to see more Raptors...Fave scene EVER is still with Tae Leoni in the 3rd one when the raptor pack comes after them, damn, that was awesome! they FASCINATE me! Even if Speilberg called them 'velociraptor' when their real name is 'utahraptor'

Hi Kleo

Thanks for that info, Kleo. I've only seen number one so it's good to hear more about the others. I didn't realise that number 2 had city settings as welll. I might have do some reading about it.

It sounds like you're a fan and that's great

Thanks for popping in!

I had read your entry and then saw on another blog that the poster you've posted is actually user created content. There isn't a 'IV' poster yet, which makes sense I guess since Sam Neill and jeff Goldblum have both said they are not signing on (I still don't understand why Laura Dern would, she's not A-List, but this is just silly).... but yeah...dinosaurs carrying guns? really?

HI Dustin

Thank-you for pointing it out, the source that I used said it was but I will change it now. As you said, it makes sense seeing as they're not sure who is actually in the film yet!

Thanks again,

Tracy

Im just a fan of Dinosaurs, and since number one (with that over the top scary you mentioned) Ive been a fan of the Jurassic series. Number two has a few moments where it looks like its gonna just lose it completely but keeps it together. By number 3 they are back on track and its got that 'believable' feel. The Spinosaurus almost kills it, until Neil explains that these things are NOT dinosaurs, not like they thought they were in the first one, they are 'Homemade monsters' and the interaction with the raptor pack is just Awesome!
Im really, really worried with the development of raptor action and this theory of the dinos not being 'real' dinos but genetically modified creatures, that Speilberg might think he can get away with giving them guns.....
HEAR ME MAN! IT WILL NOT WORK! Even if raptors DO have an opposable limb and human sized brains they could never pull the trigger with those claws.....And with weapons built in, why would they even want to?

Hi Kleo

Thanks for telling me about the different films, I didn't purposely not see them but for some reason just didn't get around to them. Strange really, as I did like number one, maybe it was my fear of sequels that stopped me.

What a pity we can't write to directors and tell them what we think.....it seems most people (from this blog anyway!) aren't keen on number 4,

See you later, Kleo,

Tracy
