NICOLE KIDMAN IS GAINING WEIGHT
October 21st 2007 22:38
I don’t normally do posts about stars and their weight issues or maybe I should say lack of weight as I think we are already bombarded by the media with their usual guff about who’s lost weight, put it on, why, when, blah blah blah and I don’t want to add to it. But I just read an article saw on Nicole Kidman which states that she is aiming to put on weight. Not for her health, not because she naturally is filling out, or because she decided to oppose the Hollywood standard of skeletal being successful, but it’s for a film.
Apparently,’The 40-year-old Australian movie star has already added 4.5kg to her svelte frame and plans to double her weight gain in coming weeks before she starts filming The Read.’ Svelte frame?! As the cliché goes, a picture speaks a thousand words, have a look at the picture below.
My next thought was how she is going to put on that weight. The answer is, ‘she is gorging’. Apparently her gorging consists of ‘drinking daily protein shakes and eating carbohydrates with every meal.’ Does that sound like gluttony to you? Nope, no way. Oooh, evil carbs in her diet? Scary stuff. I wonder how many magazines will have the story on their front cover this week...
Then of course, when the filming is done, we’ll have the usual overabundance of articles on her weight loss, how she did, etc and blah, blah, blah. It’ll be Renee Zellweger and Bridget Jones all over again.
Kidman is playing Hanna Schmitz in The Reading, a story that delves into the emotional repercussions of the Holocaust in post-war Germany.

Til then I guess I'll just keep gorging (along with my labrador) til someone tells me to stop.
You're absolutely right of course - nothing's more certain than the obligatory Trash and Carry articles which will accompany all of this.

Not a big favourite of mine, I think Nick needed the first 4.9 kilos as she was too thin... as for the rest... whoa, I'd hate to have to gain it and then loose it again . . . that's dedication. I only hope that it is worth the effort and she does a better job than her last few films, they were terrible (not counting V.Woofle because I haven't seen it yet).
Looking forward to the Reading.

That's interesting what you said about Eric Bana, maybe it's not so prevalent in the male sphere?
I definitely think if you're happy munching away, keep doing it. Your pooch will let you know if you're overdoing it.

Hi Lilla
Thanks for popping in.
I actually haven’t seen that many of her more recent films, I think the last one I saw was The Hours and I thought she was pretty good in that.
The reason why this article interested me was because she (as with many stars) wasn’t originally so skinny (she was always slender) and seems to be shrinking and shrinking as well as looking more peculiar (i.e. plastic surgery). I think if she would look fine with the extra weight as she’s so tall. It is a dedication to a film to add and lose weight though isn’t it?
Wait for those magazine articles though!!

Yes, can you imagine the attention this is going to get by the media? And then the attention when she tries to lose it (I'm assuming she won't keep the weight on). There will be a barrage of attention about all that too.
I agree, I hope she doesn't go as far as Renee Zellweger did it after Bridget Jones. I think it would be great if she kept the weight on, I think she would look great, but I'm assuming that's not going to happen.
Good job I only read mags in a dr's waiting room or a supermarket queue otherwise it would cave my head in.
I'm so jaded.

That was a really interesting link and observation you made. There's definitely some validity to it isn't there? Actors do get extra attention when they put weight on for a role and then when they lose it afterwards.
And then of course there is the opposite as with Christian Bale in The Machinist. It was astounding how much he lost and how emaciated he looked, which he had to for the role. As John Doe said in your link, he lost 63 pounds and then needed to gain it again within 6 weeks to start filming Batman Begins. Phenomenal. It can't be good for the body doing it so quickly.
It does seem that the general consensus is that Nicole should keep those extra kilos.
