LOST BOYS 2

August 13th 2007 10:23
LOST BOYS 2

ShockTillYouDrop has reported that Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander are both returning for the sequel to the 1987 The Lost Boys. It has also been confirmed that Corey Haim will be reprising his role as Sam Emerson. Additionally, Angus Sutherland - Keifer's half-brother (and son of Donald Sutherland and Francine Racette) - will star as this film's evil vamp. Tad Hilgenbrink (next seen in the upcoming Amusement) and Autumn Reeser (The O.C.) have been cast as the leads.

The new film will be a direct-to-DVD release, which director P.J. Pesce (From Dust Till Dawn 3) is getting ready to begin shooting on Monday.

I am slightly apprehensive about the sequel, mostly because many film follow-ups are rarely as good as the first film. The original had a unique blend of horror, comedy and thriller with a memorable sound track, gaining it a strong cult following. It starred Jason Patric, Corey Haim, and Kiefer Sutherland, and co-stars Jami Gertz, Corey Feldman, Dianne Wiest, Edward Herrmann, Alex Winter, Jamison Newlander, and Barnard Hughes. It was directed by Joel Schumacher.

The possibility of a sequel has been much deliberated over the years. Joel Schumacher made several attempts at creating a sequel during the 1990s but it never eventuated. A script for Lost Boys 2 has circulated since the late 1980s. On January 17th, 2007, it was revealed that Warner Bros. was beginning production on a number of straight-to-video sequels for their existing library of franchise friendly films. Among these productions is The Lost Boys 2, which begins shooting in Vancouver in June 2007. (iMDB link)

Maybe I should just remind you of the original plot seeing as it was quite a while ago, 1987 in fact. I feel old just thinking about how long ago it was. The basic premise is that a mother and her two sons move to a small coastal town in California. They soon learn that the town is plagued by bikers and strange deaths. Michael, the older son becomes involved with a local gang of bikers who have a dark and mysterious secret while Sam becomes friends with two weird boys who claim that the town is being invaded by vampires and it's their mission to get rid of them. As Michael begins to act strange, Sam suspects that his brother has become one of the undead and begins to take his friends seriously.

The original The Lost Boys performed well at the U.S. box office, grossing over $32 million - a strong performance for an R-rated horror movie, especially at that time. I wonder how well the sequel will do. I think I'm looking forward to finding out.

I'm with you on this, but I'd still be curious to check it out! It'll be interesting to see part of the orginal cast reprise their roles.

Hi Lara

Thanks for dropping in. Yes, I'm curious too. Who knows, it could be one of those sequels that works.....I wonder how long the filming will take....and how long we will have to wait?

I really don't see why they needed a sequel...

Yeah, but as you said, who knows? It might be good.

Hi Always

Good to see you. Yes, I wonder what it will be like, but as Lara said it's encouraging that they are some of the original cast. We'll just have to see....

Oooh...I don't know. I know Corey Haim is back on US screens with a reality(?) show with the other Corey but I still remember he couldn't act very well. I think I'll pass on this one - I liked Lost Boys but not enough to make me want to hang out for a sequel.

I did love The Lost Boys.....then again I wasn't the most discerning film watcher back then. Basically if it had either of the Corey's in it, I loved it. Sad really.

I'll give this a watch, but I'm not too sure that it's actually going to be a 'good' movie!

Hi Aimzster

I hadn't realised that Haim has his own reality prog now, but then again, who doesn't? Yeah, I remember the other Corey living in the shadow of the popular Corey and being known for not being a good actor. Poor chappie. Corey Feldman was the popular one
wasn't he or do I have it the wrong way round?

Hi Kylie

I quite liked the film but wasn't a huge fan but I am definitely curious to see how this one goes.

My husband has the soundtrack which is pretty good and gives you an indication of our ages.

Hey Tracy,

I heard about this the other day - and apparently it's a straight to DVD release. Damn straight - those Coreys are has beens!

By the way, I went to check your profile, and noticed that you joined Orble a year ago today, so I wanted to wish you Happy OrbleDay!

Cheers

Hi CC

I didn't read about it going straight to DVD, that seems to be happening quite a lot lately. What a pity, I don't think it would be the same on DVD.

Thank-you for wishing me Happy Orble Day. That is so lovely of you!!

1987??
...oh man I feel old....

Is Hollyweird running out of ideas or what??

I too really liked this movie...Jason Patric was hot!...and it was funny.

The Corey's were huge! In name if not in stature... certainly not in longevity!

Hmmm...will probably wait to see this on on DVD.

I'll echo Chi-ita...

Happy Orble Day T!!

Hope you're well hon...

Hi Dusk

Good to see you as always. Yes, I felt old when I learnt it was made in 1987.

Thanks for wishing me Happy Orble Day (I should make cards for this event and might even become rich from it), I can't believe it's been a year....

This makes me very, very, very, very sad. I love 'The Lost Boys', and I hate it when good (well, ok, it was good in a campy way) movies are followed up by cheap, direct-to-video sequels designed to minimize cost and maximize profit margin.

Then again, maybe the Corey's will be huge again! This could be what relaunches them to the stratosph....aw heck, I can't even type this with a straight face.

Hi Winston

It might happen that the Coreys become famous again, who knows?!

I quite liked the original and am definitely curious to see how this one goes, but sometimes I think we just don't need a sequel...why try and recreate something that has been done....of course money comes into that answer,

Hello ebutterfly59

Glad you're so excited about the sequel...yeppie, I hope the soundtrack is good again, I really liked the first one.

Hopefully you don't have to wait too long before it comes out!!

corey haim was a wasted talent in the early 90's, the lost boys was his best performance.
Haim and feldman together is the only way this is going to get viewed. They have to bring them both back, one without the other will ultimately turn alot of potential viewers off. Lost boys 2' will more than likely wind up being a 'fans only' sequel.

Hi Tracy...It's nice to talk to another LB fan. I know the fans are out there, they've just forgotten how much fun The Lost Boys really was. They will come back! As for me, I never left!

Do we know if they have announced a release date yet? I haven't heard.

I know I'm going to see he sequel but I have my doubts, too. The first one was so good. As good as it was before, It'll probably just be a gross-out his time around!

I can certainly understand the apprehension. Most sequels crash and burn. I hope this isn't the case with Lost Boys 2. It would be a damn shame! I still have faith in the 2 Corey's to pull it off! We'll just have to wait and see!

This movie is going to suck. It is going to be a complete insult to the first. If they wanted to make a sequel, 1988-92 was their window. Wow, like anyone cares what Edgar Frog is up to now, of all the characters in the original...

Lots of mixed reviews on this one. I think I am more interested in seeing how the original's have grown as actors. I think their notoreity has caused more harm than good obviously....but I am always hopefull that things will turn around for people that get lost along the way. It has to be hard being so famous at such a young age as both Corey's were. I hope they have turned a new leaf ,so with that said....I think I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

Still wishing success to the Lost Boys 2!!!

Hello ebutterfly59

I'm also hoping for a good sequel, but I fear it's not going to happen. Those were interesting points you said about the original actors.

We'll just have to see.....

I just put up two auctions of Marko's jacket (from the original movie!)
Check them out and maybe you can own a piece of vampire history!

Your text goes hereYour text goes here Most of the comments that I have read on this site are extremly negative. The movie hasn't even come out yet. There is no way to actaully tell if it will be any good yet. There are quite a few movies that have come out that nobody thought would be any good, but as it turns out, quite a few became classics.

Here is how I think we should approach this. New movie. Different location. Different plot. Yes characters that were in LB are going to have a role. Just try to think of this as a new movie. Not just a sequal.

Okay, folks! I kept this post in the back of my mind and FINALLY got a copy last night. It's not the worst horror movie I've ever seen but far from the best! Corey Haim wasn't in it. Corey Feldman was the only bright spot but we was trying too hard. Mostly though, it just didn't have the same feel, the punk horror feel of the first one. The thing that bothered me is that Feldman made a couple references to losing a family member to the vampires but it was never explained. There's really no relation to the first movie other than the title. That being said, 2 might get a fairer shake if it didn't bill itself asThe Lost Boys.
