MAGNUM PI - THE FILM VERSION
September 4th 2007 23:14
The epidemic continues...I didn’t know that Magnum PI was going to be made into a film. I don’t know if I could bear seeing those loud, over-coloured shirts on the big screen. Or Nicholas Cage’s tatty moustache. Or all the hairy chests. Eek...
Anyhoo, Cage is rumoured to be up for the title role in the film adaptation of the 80s TV series which will be directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber. According to The Daily Express, "Nicolas likes the mix of comedy and crime-solving in the script." The paper also claims that the project fell apart 18 months ago when Ricky Gervais rejected the notion of playing Higgins to George Clooney's Magnum. I can’t really see Gervais playing a subservient role.
Apparently if Cage accepts the invitation, the search for a Higgins will begin. Back in January, there were rumours that Matthew McConaughey was up for the lead role and William H. Macy to play Higgins.
The film is expected to be released in 2009. It's never dull in Hollywood.

I agree though James, that Cage seems an odd pick for the part.

I just couldn't resist putting the pic in for a laugh...it seems bizarre doesn't it?

I loved Magnum and Tom Selleck was perfect...I thought. I just don't see Nicholas as having that same charisma as Selleck....
Ah, we'll just have to see as I always say
