MTV MOVIE AWARDS 2007
June 4th 2007 11:59
The following are some thoughts that came to me while watching the 2007 MTV Movie Awards the other day...
It's a complete joke!
Seriously, if their goal is to make good performers and filmmakers look like humiliated teenagers, they succeeded perfectly. From Jack Nicholson to Gerard Butler - public humiliation. And it was clear to me they knew that, but an award is an award, you got to get up on that stage. I think they prayed not to win.
Other than that, best of the night was probably Sacha Baron Cohen, Will Ferrell, Bruce Willis and Shia LaBeouf (even though he tried to mix in with the MTV style).
The theme was obviously Transformers, so it wasn't a surprise it won "Best movie you haven't seen yet" (how can there be such an award?).
It's probably the most overrated awards show, but then again, you can do a lot with the appropriate amount of money. I hope on an improvement, even though I don't see one coming.
Best Movie:
"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" (not according to me)
Best Villain:
Jack Nicholson in "The Departed" (he's getting real old)
Best Performance:
Johnny Depp in "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" (said practically nothing)
Breakthrough Performance:
Jaden Smith in "The Pursuit of Happyness" (hilarious kid)
Best Comedic Performance:
Sacha Baron Cohen in "Borat" (comedic genius)
Best Kiss:
Will Ferrell and Sacha Baron Cohen in "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby" (funniest of the night)
Best Fight:
Gerard Butler vs. "The Uber Immortal" in "300" (he's a bit... lost)
Best Summer Movie You Haven't Seen Yet:
"Transformers" (surprise, surprise)
Best Movie Spoof
"United 300" (awful, like all other spoofs)
MTVu Best Filmmaker on Campus:
Josh Greenbaum

It was a joke, atleast most of it. some stuff had me laughing but most had me changing the channel.

I was mostly laughing because of the star-humiliation I was witnessing. =)

I think you've completely missed the whole point of the MTV Movie Awards -yes, it IS a big joke!
It's a night for some fooling around and not taking it very seriously at all... I mean don't categories like "Best Kiss" give it away?
It's just a party night, and in light of the sense of humour involved, "Best film You haven't Seen Yet" is right on track.
If the stars felt humiliated, they wouldn't rock up. They know what's in store - it's been going for a while now.

There's funny, and there's awkward and ridiculous. Period.
