EDDIE MURPHY DECIDES TO RETIRE

July 2nd 2008 06:47
Eddie Murphy

Eddie Murphy has announced to ExtraTV that after his next film, Meet Dave which will be released in July, he will retire from acting and return to stand-up comedy where his roots lie. EDIT: He's not retiring. Period.

Murphy holds the position as the highest grossing film star in history, having a total of 33 films to date. In only the US, his films have grossed over $3.4 billion, averaging a massive $104 million per film.

Murphy has received Golden Globe nominations for best actor in a comedy or musical for his performances in Beverly Hills Cop, Trading Places, and The Nutty Professor. In 2007, he won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of soul singer James ''Thunder' Early in Dreamgirls. He received a received a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for this same role.

He has declined the offer of being in Beverly Hills Cop IV as he believes: 'the role wasn’t ready to be done’. Finally, here's a star that is willing to say no to a sequel because they are concerned about its quality. He admitted that he did Beverly Hills Cop III mostly because of the large irresistible fee he received.

I guess this means that we’re likely to see more of him on SNL and other similar programs.

Here’s a Raw sample if you would like a reminder (language warning):

KUNG FU PANDA SEQUEL

June 26th 2008 22:22
KUNG FU PANDA SEQUEL

I know I enjoyed seeing Kung Fu Panda recently but I’m flummoxed to learn that a sequel is already being discussed.

According to Dreamworks boss Jeffrey Katzenberg (Shrek), Kung Fu Panda is part of a five-chapter story. He stated: ‘There is a larger story here of which this is the first chapter.’

This news is particularly surprising as at the original film took four years and seven months to make after the idea was devised by Michael Lachance back in 1993.

In its opening weekend in US, the film topped the box office, taking $US60 million ($A62.7 million). It became the third-highest opening ever for a digital animation after the two Shrek movies.

It vanquished You Don't Mess With The Zohan,Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Sex and the City.

Katzenberg said whether the further chapters happen depend upon movie-goers’ reactions: ‘It needs to be a big hit. It needs to be a blockbuster.’

By looking at those figures, I think he has his answer.

YELLOW CRAYON - CHRISTINA RICCI

YELLOW CRAYON - CHRISTINA RICCI

I’ve done a lot of moaning about predictable scripts, sequels and remakes, and now I’ve stumbled upon something different that almost seems bizarre. Christina Ricci will be playing the role of a yellow crayon in the Exodus Film Group's animated film, 'The Hero of Colour City'.

Hulk and Iron Man
I saw Iron Man few week ago, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's really smart to have Tony Stark, the Iron Man in human state, appear in The Incredible Hulk since it connects the two Marvel movies implying that they're on the same level of awesomeness. If you like the one, you'll like the other. Here you can watch the TV Spot with both in it:

spencer maybee interview
SG-1 continued its explorations in Stargate: The Ark of Truth and the fanbase rewarded it with solid critique. A good ending to the great series. The Canadian actor Spencer Maybee is part of this adventure, recognized as Captain Binder, which we got the chance to interview.

"I grew up playing guns with my brother in High Park, shaking a plastic Uzi at imaginary bad guys, making ch-ch-ch-ch-ch noises and diving behind bushes to dodge return fire, coming up with 'wounds' (A.K.A. poison oak)", Spencer Maybee remembers in his interview with us. "S:TAoT wasn't that much different. The guns were real -- that was cool -- and half-load blanks make a way more realistic sound than I could ever make spitting fricatives, but the bad guys were imaginary, just like when I was a kid."

prince of persia jake
That's right folks, it's announced that Jake Gyllenhaal will star in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, the movie based on the popular video game.

This is unexpected news, as Jake would probably the last actor I would guess for such a role, but when I think about it, why not? The guy shares the same facial characteristics, he's a talented actor, and I'm sure they will prepare him in the best ways for the movie

JAVIER BARDEM PULLS OUT OF ‘NINE’

A while ago I did a post on Nine, the musical loosely based on Federico Fellini's 81/2. The film tells the story of the director and the women in his life. Nicole Kidman was to be joined by Javier Bardem creating an appealing cast and film premise.
