NICOLE KIDMAN TO PLAY DUSTY SPRINGFIELD
May 2nd 2008 07:18
It seems that Nicole Kidman has scored another interesting role, playing Dusty Springfield in a film chronicling her life.
Kidman will be teamed with Michael Cunningham again; they previously worked together on The Hours.
Cunningham told Britain’s Daily Mirror: "It will be the real Dusty, a great artist who no one knew what to do with... But she is going into history with The Beatles and The Rolling Stones."
Dusty Springfield began her solo career in 1963 with the Motown-influenced poprock "I Only Want To Be With You". Her ensuing hits included "I Just Don't Know What to Do with Myself’, "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me" and “Son of a Preacher Man'. These are just a few of some of her utterly unforgettable classics.
Dusty kept recording and working until she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1995 and passed away in 1999.

I suppose she really has the look for this - though she had the look for Samantha in Bewitched and look at how that turned out!
Hope her tribute to Dusty Springfield is better than the one to Elizabeth Montgomery's witch.
I'm hanging out for Australia, can't wait to see how it all turns out - but you don't like Baz or Nic do you, Trace? You must love Hugh Jackman though...

Hi Mich
Good to see you here. I didn’t see Bewitched, but I did assume that role and film didn’t go so well.
I was just looking at Nicole’s previous roles and gosh she’s done so many. I thought she was good in The Hours and The Others plus I prefer her earlier roles.
I think Baz is talented and I liked Romeo and Juliet, but Moulin was just too chaotic for me.

Yes I hope this film turns out well too. I'm a Dusty fan too and am definitely interested in seeing it.

This should be an interesting movie. I`m not quite sure how I feel about Nicole Kidman actually. She has a tendancy to be a bit bland for my liking but maybe this will be the role that brings out a different side.
'Son of a preacher Man' is a great song, I had to have a little sing-a-long after your post

I agree, that she's generally bland. I really only like a few of her films even though she's done a million.
Glad you enjoyed the song
