ROCKY VOTED THE NUMBER ONE SPORTS FILM
April 15th 2008 04:46
European DVD rental website LOVEFiLM.com has voted Rocky the number one sports film of all time. The 1976 classic film that stars Sylvester Stallone as heavyweight fighter Rocky Balboa beat hit 1994 comedy Cool Runnings into second place.
In third place was Clint Eastwood's Oscar-winning Million Dollar Baby where Hilary Swank played a female boxer battling to become a professional.
Fourth place was a tie between American football movie Jerry Maguire and Martin Scorsese's 1980 classic boxing tale Raging Bull. I would never have thought of Jerry Maguire as being a sports film, but I guess it was. All I think about is Tom Cruise yelling and jumping up and down, a bit like he did on Oprah's sofa.
Other top ten members were the Field of Dreams, White Men Can't Jump, Chariots of Fire and Escape to Victory.
I’m surprised Bend it like Beckham wasn’t in there with my favourite Keira Knightly.

Bend it Like Beckham didn't make it on the list since it's a smaller film. A site like Lovefilm, the equivalent to Netflix, has interest in supporting their "best-renting" movies I'd think =)
Have a good one,
