OPENING WEEKEND FOR RUSH HOUR 3
August 13th 2007 08:58
I thought I would do a summary post of the top five highest rating films in the States on the weekend.
As you may know, Brett Ratner's latest film Rush Hour 3 opened on the weekend. It earnt an estimated $50 million total from 3,778 theatres, six years after its last installment. Despite the box office total being higher than the $33 million of the original Rush Hour, it still fell short of the $67.4 million made by Rush Hour 2 in August of 2001.
In its second weekend, Universal's The Bourne Ultimatum earned approximately $33 million from 3,686 theatres for a total of $131.7 million. The film has already made a hefty profit by making back its $110 million budget.
20th Century Fox's The Simpsons Movie, came in third place grossing an additional $11.1 million from 3,552 screens in its third week for a new total of $152.5 million. It has now earned a worldwide total of $342 million, all on a $75 million budget. Incredible stuff.
Unfortunately, Paramount's fantasy epic Stardust, did not fare as well, making only $9 million from 2,540 runs, coming in fourth place.
Lastly, Daddy Day Camp almost didn’t make it into the top 10, only grossing around $3.5 million for a new total of $5 million, as a result of its Wednesday release.
