SAM RAIMI, POC, THE WEINSTEINS, PRINCE OF PERSIA
April 17th 2007 17:19
Time for some more serial news everyone! Oh, I know you love it! Maybe. Not really. This time it's about some big movies and some big directors. Let's start out with Sam Raimi...
Sam Raimi is, as you know, the director of Spiderman. However, other than the above Japanese billboard of Spiderman, this post is not about it.
Sam Raimi has been in talks for the Hobbit movie for quite some time by now, as we talked a while ago. Nothing official though. Now Sam has spoken about this rumor to the public for the first time, saying:
It seems to me like Sam really wants to do this and I can't see why Peter Jackson or Bob wouldn't. I think we'll slowly gonna get to the point where BOOM... Sam is officially gonna direct the Hobbit! Maybe. Not really. But still, sources say Sam won't be returning for the next Spiderman, in which case he would be free for something like this.
Now over to Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World's End. It seems like this installment, probably the final one, will be almost 3 hours long. If we look at the pattern, that's not unbelievable, with the first being 140 min, the second 150 min and now the third 170 min. That's very long, so it better not be boring or dragged without any real purpose.
For you that don't know that a movie of the popular game Prince of Persia is coming out, a movie of the popular game Prince of Persia is coming out. The prince is already attached and will be played by actor Charlie Clausen. Very unknown but hopefully good. At least he fits the character facially.
Now also the director is set. Jerry Bruckheimer, the producer of POC and most other good movies, has found his old pal Michael Bay. Michael is soon releasing Transformers, another huge bad-ass movie. The game came towards the end of the 80s and beginning of 90s, but became very popular few years ago again whit the modern versions for the modern players. Very exited about this flick, very exited.
On a small note on Grindhouse, after all experiments by splitting and re-releasing the movie to the theaters, the Weinsteins (the producers) have seen no changes and therefore will probably keep it together. At least in the US because the larger part of the other world will be less lucky.
Talking about the Weinsteins, it seems like they have high hopes about their screen adaptation of Nine, a popular Broadway musical. Sources say they got a too dreamy dream cast, with Gwyneth Paltrow, Anne Hathaway, Nicole Kidman, Judi Dench, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Renée Zellweger and on the male side Johnny Depp, George Clooney, Javier Bardem or Antonio Banderas. However, they seem to understand the problem they're facing:
In other words, there's no way they'll get close to even the half of the above stars. On the other hand, Chicago which was also produced by them became quite a hit so you never know...
That's "all" folks. Give me all you got,

Peter Jackson might be the best filmmaker on the planet right now. But, um, I don't know what's going to happen next for me right now. First and foremost, those are Peter Jackson and Bob Shaye's films. If Peter didn't want to do it, and Bob wanted me to do it — and they were both okay with me picking up the reins — that would be great. I love the book. It's maybe a more kid-friendly story than the others.

How will we pay their salaries? We'll figure it out. There are roles for six women in the movie who have to be beautiful and sing and dance. It's a terrible assignment to cast this.

Prince of Persia is very exiting indeed. Even though I never managed to play it because of my inability to play such games, I love the story and environment.
I believe it'll become great. More news will be reported here as they come.
Cheers,
